There’s something about Cape May that’s just magical, and it’s not just the ice cream (though, that’s pretty great too). Capturing Brittany & Alex’s beach engagement photos in Cape May, NJ, was a reminder of why I LOVE this place! Even though the seaside shops were buzzing with people, we found a little alley that was open, followed by a charming fountain – talk about hitting the jackpot for unique photo ops!
Brittany & Alex’s Playful Sunset Beach Engagement Photos
Brittany & Alex’s beach engagement photos might be my favorite engagement photos I’ve taken to date! We started the session on the quaint little streets of Cape May. The couple went for some ice cream, and it really changed the vibes for the rest of the session for the better! They stopped focusing on how they looked, instead, they were eating, giggling, and having fun! And I’m all about letting couples be themselves and capturing those candid moments that feel so true to you and your love story!
It even started to rain, but they didn’t seem to be too worried about it! It was pouring down as they changed into their beach outfits, but as soon as they got to the beach – it completely stopped raining!
For their second location, we headed to Sunset Beach, which is well-known for its epic sunsets (DUH, I know!) However, this time around, we didn’t get them. We got moody skies and the kind of drama that only an overcast day can deliver. No golden hour? No problem! The silver lining was that the beach was ours, without the summertime crowd photobombing in the back.
It worked out really well for us since Brittany & Alex were a little nervous about getting photographs taken because they’d never done it before. Not having the extra eyes on them definitely helped them open up even more!
And let me tell you, they brought some serious game afterward for their beach engagement photos. We wanted fun with a sprinkle of editorial vibe, and boy, did they deliver!
When I showed the day’s haul to my hubby, his first words were, “Wait, these aren’t models?” which is the kind of compliment that makes all the hours spent culling through images a joy rather than a job. Picking favorites from a batch where you love 90% of the shots is the best kind of ‘problem’ a photographer could have.
